Hailing from the historic Richmond, Virginia, Tarnika Edmunds learned very early how to shift her pain into passion. Though it took her many years to align herself in her direct calling, Edmunds allowed her faith, momentum, dedication, and resiliency to aid in her transformation. Moving towards graduating this upcoming Fall Semester from Old Dominion University, Tarnika aspires to sit for Licensure in Administrative Social Work after completion of graduation to assist youth who may have endured similar adversities as her own, I.E. mental and emotional neglect, abuse, mental health disorders and stigmas, etc..
Taking on several roles on and off of campus, Tarnika finds it important to be an advocate for those without a voice. President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council at ODU, member of the Theta Chi Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated., Student Representative for the Black Alumni Chapter of Old Dominion University, Student Representative- At- Large for the National Organization for Human Services, and an Intern for the Chesterfield Adolescent Reporting Program within the Chesterfield Juvenile Detention Center, Tarnika demonstrates and possesses what an innovator, influencer, and leader truly looks like.
Outside of her commitments at the University, Tarnika found greater passion in her God-delivered purpose after the unexpected transition of her childhood best friend. In remembrance of her loss, she has created an organization that is dedicated to enhancing the quality of living for those around her nationwide and globally. Keedy's Greater Impact Foundation fosters five valuable key initiatives that are able to support those in need: Youth Development, Academic Enhancement, Community Engagement, Economic Empowerment, and Crisis Intervention & Prevention. With two projects already launched, a mentoring program that is in complete effect, Edmunds continues to execute her calling by stamping her mark, leaving a legacy, and creating enough space at the table for individuals who look like herself. Tarnika favors the quote, "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, compassion, some humor, and some style", written by the notable Maya Angelou.
